Sinnissippi Forest
When talking about Christmas, Charles Dickens wrote, "There seems to be a magic in the very name." One of the ways to enjoy the magic of an old-fashioned Christmas is to bring the family to Sinnissippi Forest for a day of fun at Northern Illinois' premier Christmas tree farm. Located 3 miles south of Oregon on Lowden Road, next to Lowden-Miller State Forest, visitors can roam through acres of beautiful trees, then find and cut down the one that's just right for them.

While developing a holiday tradition, visitors are invited to treat themselves to hot or cold apple cider, hot cocoa, coffee, and freshly popped popcorn. Children receive free coloring books and candy canes.

Weekend following Thanksgiving
and every weekend in December
before Christmas

  • Horse-drawn wagon rides through the Christmas trees
  • Santa and Mrs. Claus
  • Fresh hot apple cider donuts, and hot sandwiches

Field Trips
Sinnissippi Forest also offers field trips that are fun and educational. Children will learn all about Christmas trees, from planting through harvesting. They will learn why cutting Christmas trees is actually good for our environment. A short hike into the tree field will include identifying different species of trees and the parts of the trees, telling the age of trees, the importance of the trees to the air we breathe, and how wildlife impact the trees and the trees help the wildlife.

Children will see how cut trees are prepared for the journey home. A tractor-pulled wagon ride through the trees is also available. Following the tour, the children can warm up as they hear stories, sing songs and enjoy popcorn and apple cider. They may even be visited by Chris-T the Christmas Tree. Coloring books and candy canes are given to each child. Parents and siblings are welcome to come along!

PRICE:
$1.50 per student (minimum 8)
$2.00 with wagon ride
Length of Tour: Approximately 1 hour
