Historical Sites
Several locations in Oregon offer visitors the opportunity to step back in time and experience life as it used to be. Two of these, John Deere Historic site and Chana School preserve a little bit of local history and provide opportunities for families to have fun and learn as they discover what life was like in the mid to late 1800s.

A bit of Oregon's architectural heritage is preserved in the historic Ogle County Courthouse, which is on the National Register of Historic Buildings. While nearby Mt. Morris provides an opportunity to view the official Illinois Freedom Bell.

Those wishing to learn while enjoying nature will find a visit to the Lorado Taft Field Campus a special delight. Once home to the Eagles Nest Artist Colony, members used this site from 1898 through 1942. One of its most renowned members was Lorado Taft.

Today the campus belongs to Northern Illinois University. It welcomes schools, conference groups, teachers, youth leaders, and children to experience this scenic outdoor educational and recreational facility.
